Chase Plourde

Technician: Foundation Visual Arts

Diploma in Fine Craft: Ceramics, Certificate in Foundation Visual Arts – NBCCD

“Joe [the Maintenance Manager] is awesome, and all the techs are really great, and nice, and willing to teach you things, and not leave you in the dark.”

Chase Benjamin Plourde is the Studio Technician for the Foundation Visual Arts program. He works to make sure that equipment and supplies are available and ready at the start of every class, and helps behind the scenes with the College as a whole.

Chase has his own pottery business, Chase Benjamin Ceramics, for his unique tableware created using image transfer. He sells his wares and is the first manager of The Craft & Design Shop, an NBCCD alumni/student-led store at 415 King St.

His enjoyment of selling pottery goes beyond the thrill of making money. What really interests him are the stories that emerge – why a person wants a certain piece, and what happens to it after they leave the store.  An antiques dealer bought a Chase Benjamin mug with a ship on it. He was so enamored with the cup that he once hurt his own foot in an effort to save it from falling.

Chase’s Superpower: He can juggle, yo-yo, and make people laugh.
