Jess Kelly

Technician: Ceramics

Diploma in Fine Craft: Ceramics, Certificate in Foundation Visual Arts – NBCCD

“I like fixings things – tearing things apart and putting them back together. You get to know the nuts and bolts of things.”

Jess Kelly is the Studio Technician for the Ceramics studio, responsible for maintenance of the wide range of studio equipment, from kilns to clay mixing tools. She also shares her craft by teaching pottery in NBCCD’s LEAP evening courses.

Jess’ business, Clay Kickin’ Pottery, focuses on high-fire ceramics made with a kick wheel rather than electric. She learned wood firing from David Eastwood and Lee Clark, and later, with fellow alumna Courtney Johnson.

Jess sold her pottery at the Boyce Farmers Market for seven years, and now sells direct-to-client and wholesale. She is a recipient of the NB Crafts Council Award for Emerging Artists.

Jess’ Superpower: She has people power – she is good with people and can deal with anybody.
