Kent Jensen

Technician: Textile Design

Diploma in Fine Craft & Applied Design: Surface Design, NBCCD

“I am a jack of all trades – I have to be. My home is really Print – I can be helpful with the dyes and getting the right colours. The engagement comes from the students realizing that I know how to do it, even when it’s Knit or Weave.”

Kent Jensen is the studio technician for Textile Design, as well as the lead mentor for the student-run Craft & Design Shop.

After graduating from NBCCD, He began a fruitful career as a textile designer. His short-run, upcycled wearables are a hit at craft sales, online, and in New Brunswick stores. He was a member of the popular Garrison Studio in the Barracks Fine Craft Shops, and is now one of three artisans in the Fredericton Artist Boutique (FAB), a pop-up that has made appearances in locations such as the Fredericton Regional Museum and local Holiday Markets. He is a member the Fibre Arts Network, and alumni of Artful Persuasion an artisan Collective, and juried member of Craft NB.

When he’s not working on his own creations, he often acts as production assistant and dye technician for other artists, including Blue Lotus and Denise Richard. Blue Lotus scouted his valuable skills at his graduate exhibition, where he exhibited a recycled, recoloured, and refashioned denim schoolgirl outfit.

A fun fact about him: He talks very fast, and even more so when he has had espresso. His love of coffee is so obvious that Facebook often tries to change his textile design page to the category of “Coffee Shop.”
