ALTERATION: A Fashion Story

Step into a world where fabric, form, and storytelling intertwine. ALTERATION: A Fashion Story is the latest exhibition from the NBCCD Fashion Design Studio, opening May 8 at the George Fry Gallery. This compelling showcase invites you to witness how fashion becomes a language for transformation.

Running from May 8 to 28, the exhibition highlights the incredible work of emerging designers who are redefining what it means to dress with intention and meaning. Whether through sustainable practices, deconstruction and reconstruction of garments, or exploring personal and cultural identity, each piece on display is a testament to the art of change and reinvention.

Join us for the opening reception on Thursday, May 8 at 4:30 PM to meet the designers and experience their collections up close.

This year’s Fashion Studio cohort has crafted a narrative that challenges conventions and invites dialogue. ALTERATION isn’t just about tailoring hems or reworking seams; it’s about questioning the norms and imagining new ways of being through fashion. The exhibition space becomes a runway of ideas, reflecting stories of growth, adaptation, and courage.

Free and open to the public, ALTERATION: A Fashion Story is your chance to engage with the next generation of creative thinkers in Canadian fashion. Whether you’re a fashion enthusiast, an advocate for sustainable design, or simply curious about the artistic process, this show is not to be missed.

Discover how clothing can become a canvas for self-expression—and how transformation can begin with a single stitch.

DiplomaFashion Design

Fashion Design is a two-year studio-based Diploma program that can be completed in six semesters of study. This course gives students the opportunity to develop technical expertise in fashion design and an expressive, personal sense of design. They learn the basics of sewing, pattern development and garment construction. These skills prepare students for more advanced studies in corset construction, finishing techniques, tailoring and draping. Fashion illustration and history give students inspiration to create their own fashion line to be presented at the annual fashion event.
