Familial Fields – A Group Exhibition
The George Fry Gallery presents, Familial Fields a multidisciplinary group exhibition that brings together five emerging artists whose work explores personal and collective ideas of home. Using a range of mediums—including photography, ceramics, and jewellery/metal arts—each artist presents a distinct interpretation of how memory, place, and identity shape their understanding of belonging.
Rather than offering a single definition of “home,” this exhibition highlights how personal history, family traditions, cultural background, and lived experiences contribute to varied and sometimes conflicting meanings. For some, home is tied to physical space or landscape; for others, it exists in objects, routines, or relationships. Together, these works examine how the idea of home can be both comforting and complex, rooted in nostalgia yet shaped by change.
The pieces on display are connected by a shared interest in storytelling. Each artist uses their chosen medium to reflect on the places and people that have influenced them—whether through a series of intimate photographs, carefully crafted ceramic forms, or wearable objects that hold personal significance. These visual narratives offer a quiet invitation to the viewer to consider their own experiences and emotional ties to home.
Familial Fields aims to create a space for reflection on the ways we carry our pasts with us—how we return to familiar images, textures, or memories when trying to define who we are and where we come from. It’s a show grounded in everyday experience, elevated by the careful attention of artists who have chosen to explore what is often overlooked or taken for granted.
Join us for the opening reception on Thursday, June 5 at 4:30 PM at the George Fry Gallery. The exhibition runs from June 5 to July 9 and is open to the public.
