New Brunswick College of Craft and Design (NBCCD) presents Through Practice, an exhibition bringing 11 works from collectionArtNB (the provincial permanent art collection) into the college’s George Fry Gallery from October 8 to November 10, 2026.
Through Practice brings together 11 works from collectionArtNB to reflect on NBCCD’s place within the artistic life of New Brunswick and on the many artists, practices, and forms of knowledge that have shaped the craft and design college over time.
Featured Artists
The exhibition includes work by: Bruno Bobak, Linda Brine (NBCCD faculty), Charlotte Glencross (NBCCD faculty and fellow), Kathy Hooper, Susan Judah (NBCCD faculty and fellow), Peter Powning (NBCCD fellow), Fred Ross, Craig Schneider (NBCCD faculty), Tom Smith, Brigid Toole Grant (NBCCD faculty), and James Wilson.
Their practices span fibre, ceramics, photography, painting, drawing, metal, and printmaking.
The relationships explored in Through Practice have taken different forms. Teaching, mentorship, studio practice, material knowledge, and artistic exchange have all contributed to the environment in which NBCCD developed. Rather than trace a single history, the exhibition allows these influences and points of connection to be considered alongside one another.
since 1938
NBCCD developed within a much larger artistic community. Artists, educators, makers, and cultural organizations across New Brunswick contributed knowledge, practices, and perspectives that informed the college since its launch in 1938. Through Practice acknowledges some of those influences while placing NBCCD within the broader cultural life of the province.
Established by the Government of New Brunswick in 1968, collectionArtNB holds work by artists who have contributed to the artistic life of the province. Presenting these works at the George Fry Gallery offers an opportunity to encounter part of that collection through the materials, practices, and histories represented in the work. The gallery invites guests to explore the treasured works and consider them in relation to NBCCD and New Brunswick’s wider arts community.
Attend the public opening reception on Thursday, October 8 from 4:30-6:00 pm.
