Collect, the premier international art fair for contemporary craft and design, celebrated its 20th year in 2024 at the iconic Somerset House in London. This annual event, hosted by the Crafts Council, showcases cutting-edge artistry and innovation, spotlighting works created within the past five years by living artists and designers.
From February 28 to March 3, 2024, Collect welcomed thousands of art enthusiasts and collectors to explore the finest in contemporary craft. Among the exceptional talents represented were artists and craftspeople connected to the New Brunswick College of Craft and Design (NBCCD), who proudly brought Atlantic Canadian artistry to the world stage.
Six remarkable artists with ties to NBCCD—Brigitte Clavette, Anna Torma, Shane Perley-Dutcher, Judy Blake, Darren Emenau, and Gordon Sparks—dazzled audiences with their innovative works. Their creations exemplified the intersection of tradition, craftsmanship, and contemporary design, earning acclaim in this prestigious setting.
Brigitte Clavette, a current NBCCD Jewellery/Metal Arts instructor and acclaimed metal artist, demonstrated her unparalleled expertise and innovation. Judy Blake, a former instructor, impressed audiences with her distinctive approach to craft. Alumni Darren Emenau and Shane Perley-Dutcher highlighted their enduring impact on the contemporary craft landscape, solidifying their reputation as leaders in their fields.
The inclusion of NBCCD artists at Collect underscores the college’s role in fostering world-class talent. Their participation not only celebrates the rich artistic heritage of New Brunswick but also highlights the global relevance of Atlantic Canadian craft and design.
