NBCCD is pleased to welcome Carrie Nolan as the new Director of the College.

Carrie comes to the College from her current position of Dean of Strategic Initiatives for Coast Mountain College (one of BC’s public colleges), a position that she has held since 2016. Carrie has also served as the General Manager of Path of the Paddle (an agency providing oversight to a 1200 km water trail from Manitoba to Thunder Bay) in Thunder Bay, ON; Acting Director and Assistant Professor with Ambrose University in Calgary, AB; and Instructor with the Saskatchewan Indian Institute of Technology in Maclean Lake, SK. She has Bachelor degrees in Geography and Tourism (Outdoor Recreation); a Masters degree in Experiential Education; and a Doctorate in Educational Foundations. In her current role as Director of Strategic Initiatives, Carrie has provided leadership for the Centre for Learning Transformation and has helped make it a mainstay of professional development for faculty.

Carrie is a passionate educator and her ability to connect learning to head, heart and hands garnered her recognition from the Association of Experiential Education as 2007’s Outstanding Educator of the Year. She and her colleagues were also awarded a Teaching Fellowship from BC Campus in 2018 for their scholarly enquiry with their Yurt Teaching Lab.  On another front, Carrie is an avid canoeist and was on the first all-women team that canoed across Canada. In 2012, she was named a Kick Ass Canadian for her work on and for Canadian waterways.

She is committed to leading authentically and inspirationally, and is excited to join with her new NBCCD colleagues to move the College forward. She has expressed that she “understands that being in a visible role, representing and advocating for NBCCD, means being a trustworthy leader who is fiscally responsible, inclusive and communicative. I lead in a spirit of collaboration and look to team members to influence and guide growth as a whole while encouraging each of theirs individually.”
