Headshots of textile artists Alissa Kloet and Andrea Tsang Jackson.

Textile artists Andrea Tsang Jackson (3rd Story Workshop) and Alissa Kloet (Keephouse Studio) have been collaborating since 2016. They met as fellow vendors at the Halifax Crafters’ Society spring market. The two artists form the creative minds behind Fat Quarterly.

In 2019, Alissa Kloet and Andrea Tsang Jackson spent a week-long residency at Hoyt House, King’s Landing, in Port Williams, New Brunswick through an artist-in-residence program organized by the New Brunswick College of Craft and Design. There, they birthed a continuous collaboration: Fat Quarterly.

From April 7 to 27, the two will be displaying their work at the George Fry Gallery, in collaboration with the New Brunswick College of Craft and Design.

Alissa designs home goods, combining her original surface designs with functional forms such as linen textiles for kitchen, dining, and home decor. Andrea uses quilting as her main artistic medium. Among other endeavours in her art practice, she designs quilt patterns for quilters to enjoy and learn from.

Fat Quarterly brings together Alissa’s surface designs with Andrea’s original quilt patterns. They have launched five editions since January 2020 and will launch Fat Quarterly No. 6 in May 2022. Although, thematically, Alissa and Andrea’s collaborative work reflects on present-day realities, it is always in dialogue with the hands that have come before and the hands that will touch their work in the near and distant future.
