The New Brunswick College of Craft and Design is pleased to announce a new initiative designed to give its students the opportunity to learn from and collaborate with a creative role model.
Launching in January 2023, the Visiting Scholar program will provide a creative, dynamic environment for a visiting artist to build and accelerate their practice. They will participate in the NBCCD community by teaching a class or taking on a creative or educational assignment, and interacting with students during the academic year.
“The Visiting Scholar program has the potential to energize and enrich our College community, as well as the wider cultural life of New Brunswick,” said Academic Dean Jared Peters.
NBCCD encourages applications from creative workers and educators whose achievements have been recognized as demonstrating extraordinary promise in any area of craft and design practice and teaching.
Expectations
NBCCD Visiting Scholars spend one academic semester (January-April 2023) at NBCCD and formal teaching is expected. Visiting Scholars can expect to teach one course subject to approval by the Academic Dean, but may be asked to take on a creative or educational assignment in lieu of a class. The teaching load is light, but the expectation is that Visiting Scholars will be full and active members of the NBCCD community, committed to frequent and engaged interactions with students during the academic year.
Compensation
Each Visiting Scholar will receive $15,000 for their contribution and time to the college. This program is not intended to fund work leading to an advanced degree.
