Beyond The Flat
March 25, 2024
The Beyond the Flat exhibition showcases the work of 9 second-year NBCCD students and 4 faculty members from the 3D Digital Design Studio. This collection of work will feature tangible sculptures and installations of digital work that are typically viewed on a flat computer screen. The works will feature a collection of 3D-printed sculptures, 2D prints of rendered environments, and more. The ability to view these beyond the confines of a computer or any other device is the inspiration behind the exhibition’s title and theme.
The students were challenged to create unique pieces that emphasized the idea that it’s possible to transform two-dimensional designs into three-dimensional works of art. Alongside their individual creations, the students and instructors collaborated on a 3D chess set.
According to Jamie Bergin, the coordinator of the 3D studio, “Bringing this kind of exhibition to the public will help people better understand what the 3D studio is working on and challenge their preconceived notions of what a 3D designer can do.”
The George Fry Gallery is open Monday to Friday from 10 am to 4 pm and located at 408 Queen St., Fredericton, NB.
