Ellen Woolaver

Academic Dean

Bachelor of Art – University of New Brunswick
Costume Studies – Dalhousie University

“It is important to me to create a positive environment for faculty, one where they feel appreciated, respected, and celebrated. Some say they miss this place when they are away for the summer. I really like to hear that. It means a lot to me knowing they love coming to work.”

Ellen Woolaver is the Academic Dean, overseeing all things related to academics for faculty and students. It is her job to ensure the educational experience is positive and running smoothly.

She is the former Coordinating Instructor for the Fashion Design program. She was responsible for organizing and delivering the Fashion curriculum and building a great teaching team of faculty and technical support. When Ellen inherited the fashion program in 1997, she started a college Annual Fashion Show. This show, now in its 21st year, has been the launching moment of so many successful careers in fashion.

Ellen started her career in the theatre industry, working out of a suitcase and traveling to costume shops across the country. She has created costumes for Theatre NB, the Neptune Theater in Halifax, The University of Calgary, Theatre Plus in Toronto, and the Stratford Festival. Upon settling in Fredericton, Ellen started her own couture business called Elenka, which created what she liked to define as “real clothes for real people”.

A fun fact about Ellen: She has interesting and diverse hobbies, which include everything from playing with string and paper to challenging the golf course.
